Selection process information

Terms and conditions.

Welcome to Iberia Cadetes, an airline pilot programme and ATPL course run in collaboration with FTEJerez. I am Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, Chief Operating Officer at Iberia, and charged by the airline with the management of this programme and the hiring of its flight deck crews.

Iberia Cadetes is a Mentored & Financed Airline Pilot Scheme that has been developed with our training partner, FTEJerez, to provide a source of quality preselected pilots to crew our aircraft. You will undertake training under the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) route to the right-hand seat of our aircraft. The course has been specifically designed to teach you all of the key elements necessary for you to successfully transition to an Iberia flight deck.

During your training in Jerez, your progress will be mentored throughout the course by Iberia and as the final phase of this course, students will undergo an A320 Type Rating.

Selection for the programme will follow the standard format and battery of tests FTEJerez conducts for other airline mentored schemes. Top candidates will be offered positions on courses commencing training at Jerez in September 2024.

May I take this opportunity to wish you every success with your application and the selection process.

Rafael Jiménez Hoyos

Chief Operating Officer
Iberia

Iberia Cadetes is a Mentored & Financed Airline Pilot Scheme, which is an FTEJerez training programme for low-hour entry to the Iberia Group. This is a great opportunity for people who want to join a leading airline which is the Spanish flag carrier and one of the most punctual and longstanding airlines in the world.

We are looking for high calibre, well-motivated individuals who are keen to be part of our team.

To be eligible for this scheme you must be 18 years old when applying, hold at least high school qualifications (Bachillerato or equivalent) and have achieved access to University (EvAU or equivalent). Iberia will be considering candidates with a strong Bachillerato (or equivalent educational systems) final score. Please note that you must have completed Bachillerato and EVAU when submitting your application – predicted grades will not be accepted. A University Degree will be highly valued. You must also have a clean criminal record and hold the right to live and work in the EU.

Candidates must speak Spanish at a native level and hold at least a B2 English proficiency or equivalent. If you do not hold a formal evaluation or certificate, FTEJerez will directly assess your English language competency.

Should you hold a formal English Language certificate, please submit it together with your academic certificates.

As this is an airline pilot programme and ATPL training course, applications from qualified commercial pilots (CPL/ATPL, under any authority) will not be considered. If this is your case, please visit Iberia’s website for direct entry opportunities.

Iberia Cadetes follows the syllabus and structure of FTE’s renowned integrated ATPL course, the Airline First Officer Programme (AFOP), which for this particular airline scheme has a total price of 118.600€.

If successful, however, you will only require to fund 50% of the programme. The remaining 50% will be financed by Iberia and deducted from your net wages once the A320 type rating course is completed and you become an employee of the Iberia Group.

The candidate will also have to fund an Airbus A320 Type Rating provided by an Iberia TR supplier.

Iberia Cadetes total fees are inclusive of the following:

  • 62 weeks of training
  • Full-board accommodation (3 meals a day), VAT included
  • 1st attempt, ground and flying EASA exams
  • Renewal of the EASA Class One Medical
  • All training material
  • Landing and navigation fees
  • FTEJerez cadet uniform (except shoes)

Please bear in mind the course start date (Sept. 2024) when considering the remaining funds that you will require in order to commence training.

Throughout the training, the Iberia cadet’s performance will not only be monitored by FTE’s training team, but there will also be an oversight by Iberia’s Training team.

If successful throughout the training at FTEJerez no further selection will be required by Iberia. With over 130 destinations in nearly 50 different countries and a modern fleet of mainly Airbus aircraft, there are great opportunities for career progression within the airline.

Please note that following graduation from the programme, cadets may have to join a waiting pool for a few months until the corresponding First Officer vacancy required by the airline is made available.

Candidates will be able to apply as from the 30th of April until the 15th of May inclusive. It is advised, however, that candidates apply within the first week of the selection window.

When applying, you will be required to create a user name and password. With this information, you will be given access to a personal Candidate Area, where you can complete your application.

Should your application be successful in progressing to the next phase you will be required to travel, at your own expense, to FTE’s campus in Jerez de la Frontera. Currently, these selection phases will take place during the months of May and June. If you have completed assessments with FTEJerez previously, you will still be required to retake some of them for this programme.

The initial assessments will include written aptitude tests (maths & physics, numerical reasoning, numeracy and verbal reasoning) and a group exercise. Candidates invited to this phase will receive pre-test guidance material in order to prepare for it. Further assessments will include online cut-e pyschometric tests and a personal interview in Jerez.

The final element of the selection process will include a personality assessment, an interview, and a company medical check with Iberia (NB: not the Class 1 medical, which you will have to obtain on your own before commencing training in Jerez), which will take place at the airline’s headquarters in Madrid, Spain. The date for this one-day selection phase will be arranged with successful candidates in June.

Throughout the selection process you will be advised as to whether or not your application has been progressed to the next stage.

Please note that emails may not be sent and that you must visit your personal candidate area for these updates.

Due to the large number of applications expected, neither Iberia nor FTEJerez will be in a position to provide individual detailed feedback on your performance.
