FTEJerez celebrates its 25th Anniversary in Jerez

FTEJerez has commemorated a significant milestone this May, marking the 25th anniversary of its establishment in Spain since relocating from its original location in Prestwick, Scotland, to the city of Jerez de la Frontera in 1999.

To celebrate this outstanding achievement, FTEJerez held a very special event to gather its alumni at the impressive Atalaya Museums. The event brought together graduates who currently serve as co-pilots and captains in major airlines worldwide.

During the welcome speech, Oscar Sordo, CEO of FTEJerez, took the opportunity to review the major milestones of the school since its arrival in Jerez and expressed his pride in these 25 years of accomplishments: “We are very proud to celebrate 25 years of excellence in aviation training. We have become a benchmark in the industry thanks to the commitment to quality from our entire staff and the competence demonstrated every day by the nearly 3,000 pilots trained with FTEJerez over these years. We are committed to continuing to offer the highest quality in pilot and air traffic controller training, preparing them for the future challenges of aviation.”

The students who attended the event -today first officers and captains- were able to reunite with former classmates, instructors, and see many familiar faces.

In addition to the alumni gathering, FTEJerez extended an invitation to its corporate clients to enjoy the exciting MotoGP 2024 show at the iconic Circuito de Jerez. Guests had the privilege of watching the thrilling final from a VIP suite conveniently located next to the finish line. As part of this celebration, the school also raffled 25 VIP passes among its current students, giving the lucky winners the opportunity to enjoy this sporting event, which has become a symbol of the city of Jerez.

Coincidentally, this May also marked the start of the school’s 250th course, which includes the first students sponsored by British Airways since 2015. A total of 40 BA cadets are expected to begin their training with FTEJerez in 2024. The 250th course is also the first to incorporate from day one in its teaching materials the objectives of EBT (Evidence Based Training) and training in the nine competencies described by EASA, equipping its graduates with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to manage any risk situation.

Thus, FTEJerez becomes the only pilot school in Europe to establish this innovative methodology for training development and qualification, replicating what the leading airlines implement to train their flight crews.
